Located in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans, Nowe Miasto is a collectively run multi-racial, social justice-centered limited equity housing cooperative and multi-use autonomous community space, promoting art, music, community activism, and housing affordability. This 3-story, 11,000 square foot converted warehouse space, was originally formed as a communal housing project with art/performance space, a library, and meeting space for local activist groups in the late spring of 1999. Over the years, Nowe Miasto has served as an incubator, sustainer, and supporter of a number of community-based projects and groups who utilized the building for various events and activities including meeting space, art and work space, office space, as fundraising and performance venues, conference housing, gardening, and much more.
